2011 Volkswagen Passat unveiled

2011 volkswagen passat
Volkswagen is slowly in the process of refreshing its entire product portfolio, and right on the heels of the recently introduced 2011 Jetta comes the seventh-generation Passat. The automaker's new corporate design language is in full force here, and observations of the new Passat looking like a big Jetta will not be disagreed with.

A full range of gasoline and diesel engines will be available when the Passat launches later this year. In North America, it's safe to assume that we'll receive the 207-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as well as the 296-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6, but we won't rule out the possibility of Volkswagen offering its well-liked 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine, as well. All engines can be mated to either a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and like previous Passats, 4Motion all-wheel drive should be available on top-end models.

The Passat will also be available with Volkswagen's XDS electronic differential, which first debuted on the GTI hatch. This system helps reduce understeer and improve overall traction in slippery conditions, and we imagine that it will quickly make its way to the vast majority of VW products. What's more, a new optional city emergency braking function automatically stops the car at speeds below 18 miles per hour when an imminent collision is detected, sort of like the self-stopping systems by Volvo.

2012 Ford Focus ST hatches early

American enthusiasts have been waiting anxiously for a properly hotted up version of Ford's European hatchback would be a gross understatement. And while we're still waiting for a proper Focus RS to hit our shores, we're certainly happy to see its little brother, the Focus ST, hit the showroom floor with promises of coming Stateside in 2012 ringing in our ears.

Here's why our interest is piqued: a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque; a six-speed manual transmission and Ford's new torque-vectoring power control system. Throw in a Tangerine Scream paint job and some 19-inch alloys in the Blue Oval's signature Y-spoke ST pattern and we're tickled pink.

Car shipping insurance policy

When vehicles are shipped from one location to another, there are chances for uncertainty. To cover such uncertainty and the damage incurred, proper insurance coverage should be taken. Car shipping insurance coverage is a required mode which should be processed by almost every car shipping company who provide services. Generally, most of the auto shipping companies come up with a feature that they are insured and licensed. Auto insurance will compiles with all statute of the state and federal government and ensures that the company will pay off for the damages, incase it is reasonable.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420 Roadster

There's not much we'd change about the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, as it's compact, stylish and thoroughly addictive already. But that hasn't stopped the British marque from launching a series of updates and upgrades. The latest came in July with the launch of the N420 edition coupe, a race-car-for-the-street variant inspired by the company's motorsports prowess at the Nurburgring. At the time, Aston announced that the N420 – itself the successor to the earlier N400 – would be available in both coupe and convertible bodystyles, but it has only now released the drop-top model ahead of its debut later this week at the Paris Motor Show.

Like the N420 coupe, the roadster keeps the same 420-horsepower V8 engine and the optional Sport Pack suspension as standard, and upgrades with a sport exhaust system, new wheels, aero package and reduced weight as compared to the standard model. Prices should come in around the $145k mark, available with either a six-speed manual or Sportshift automatic. Have a closer look at the Gaydon goodness in our gallery below, and stay tuned for live shots straight from the Parisian show floor.

Maserati Quattroporte hearse on a car shipping trailer

Remember when we told you about Intercar Modena turning a Maserati Quattroporte into hearse? We're not sure if this is one of theirs, but the number of Maserati hearses built has to be very low, but that hasn't stopped some fortunate soul from capturing one in the wild. The video after the jump is quick but the car is clearly visible. It's a rare spotting of a vehicle people are dying to get into.

When you get set to leave this world, you may want to go out in style. Cadillacs and Lincolns are the chariots of commoners. A Mercedes is a step in the right direction. There are some, however, with a privileged palate and serious sense of style, and some of them will doubtlessly opt for coachbuilt Italian splendor. The Maserati Quattroporte hearse is a wonderful example of how someone can shoot through to the other side in fine style. Put on your best black suit and make the jump to see the video.

Lexus still mulling LF-A Roadster, planning seven-seat CUV?

lexus lfa roadster
According to a new report from AutoWeek, Lexus has a whole slew of tricks up its sleeves that it hopes will help right the ship and keep the automaker atop the luxury car sales sweepstakes, a position that's currently in jeopardy due to a rising tide of threats from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Starting at the tippy-top of the lineup, it seems that Lexus may halt production of the show-stopping LFA coupe after just 500 units have been delivered. If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who can afford its outrageous sticker price, though, perhaps you shouldn't fret too much – AW says a production version of the LFA Roadster concept is once again in the cards. According to the story, the 2008 Detroit Auto Show star will likely even be built in larger numbers than its hard-hatted predecessor, though it could take a year or so for it to show up.

Also on the potential possibilities list is a so-called Lexus VX, which would supposedly be a step up from the Japanese brand's all-conquering RX crossover. The car-based VX would feature seven seats and offer more interior room and strive to offer better driving dynamics. Interestingly, the marque is also said to be studying a rival for BMW's X6.

Of course, we know that the CT200h hybrid hatchback is right around the corner, but Lexus is also reportedly planning a bevy of updates across its entire model range to bring some freshness into its showrooms. Want to know more? Feel free to hit up the source link below for all the gossip.

Does the size of a car matters?

Small cars posing threat to driving-fatal car accidents

car accident
Why small cars are built?
All new cars and other trucks are built to congregate a comprehensive set of federal safety regulations. They are built keeping in mind the precautions and the safety measures. But that doesn’t mean that all vehicles are equally safe all the time. You might wonder when you come to know that the vehicle that you are buying or which you are driving may put you at a greater risk of dying in an accident, according to a study published by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, a nonprofit supported by the insurance industry.

Why we choose small cars?
People choose small vehicles because they are generally more environmentally friendly, a great value, they provide for greater driving and parking options in congested urban areas, and many consumers tell us they are simply more fun to drive.

Top ten stolen vehicles - 2009

It's that time of year again. The National Insurance Crime Bureau has just released its top 10 stolen vehicles from 2009, and once again, the most stolen vehicle in the U.S. continues to be the 1994 Honda Accord. In fact, all but three vehicles retained the same slots on the list as they held last year. Newcomers include the 1994 Chevrolet full-size pickup at number 7, the 2002 Ford Explorer at number 9 and the 2009 Toyota Corolla at number 10. The '02 Explorer moved up one notch from last year, and both the 1999 Ford Taurus and 1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee dropped off of the list all together.

The FBI recently released a study finding vehicle theft in the United States was at its lowest point in nearly 20 years, though recovery rates were similarly lower than ever, too. NCIB says that may be due to the fact that the majority of vehicles stolen today are immediately cut up for parts instead of being resold as whole vehicles. Like the FBI, NICB recommends owners use common sense by locking their vehicles, installing a warning or immobilization device and considering a tracking mechanism. Infiniti FX models see price drop for 2011

The 2011 Infiniti FX has just received that rare gift of a price cut, with $2,600 coming off the FX50's MSRP and $1,250 in savings for the FX35. Looking at Infiniti's numbers for 2010, the division has been outperforming 2009 by anywhere from 10 to nearly 50 percent since February 2010, but the picture comes into focus when you separate the FX from the herd.

Despite good divisional performance, the swoopy FX is off 12.4 percent calendar year to date, according to the Nissan North America sales report for August 2010. It's not like 2009 was a banner year, of course, so to help spur FX sales, Infiniti has lowered the base MSRPs on its FX models to $41,600 for the rear-wheel-drive FX35, $43,050 for the FX35 with all-wheel drive and $56,400 for the V8-powered FX50. To sweeten the pot, Infiniti is also throwing in a standard power liftgate, too. We'll know soon enough whether the pricing gambit has worked. Official press release posted after the jump. Hat tip to Zach!

World's Fastest Street Car drives 1,200 miles, whips off 6.95 ET @ 209 mph

Technically, there's nothing wrong with putting your race car on a trailer and towing it to the track. In fact, as anyone who has tried to use a track rat as a daily driver can tell you, a car can be either a racer or a commuter. Rarely can it do both effectively. But there's a certain subset of drivers out there for whom "trailer queen" is as dirty a phrase as any four-letter word you could think of. Hot Rod Magazine has worked up an event just for these folk. It's called Drag Week, and the rules are pretty simple. Cars must run five tracks in five states over five days, lowest ET wins and everyone has to drive their bruiser from track to track. No trailers allowed.

This year's king of the heap is Larry Larson and his 1966 Chevrolet Nova, a racer that is staking its claim for the title of world's fastest street car. A twin-turbocharged 565 cubic-inch big-block Bowtie V8 supplies the grunt, and though it's never been on a dyno, estimates put it at more than 2,300 horsepower. As a result, Larson can launch the car down the quarter mile in 6.95 seconds at 209.1 mph, even after driving the car on public roads for five days straight – some of it in pouring rain, no less. Hit the jump to see a few videos of the machine.

Rolls-Royce to feature five personalized Rollers

When it comes to luxurious exclusivity, there's nothing quite like a Rolls-Royce. And while your local R-R dealer will give you the white glove and red carpet treatment all day long, the automaker prides itself on offering an extensive personalization program. After all, if you're paying buku bucks for any of the vehicles in the Rolls stable, why not shell out for some personal touches?

To promote its knack for bespoke design, Rolls-Royce will be bringing five personalized vehicles to the stage at this year's Paris Motor Show. Along with the gunmetal metallic extended-wheelbase Phantom pictured above, a Phantom Coupe, Drophead Coupe and two Ghosts will be on hand, allowing show-goers to get a taste of the optional touches available across the automaker's portfolio. The Phantom seen here features custom elements like special embroidery in the headrests, seat piping and mother of pearl centers to the white instrument dials, control knobs and analog clock face.

For the full details, put on your best top hat and hit the jump for Rolls-Royce's press blast, and scroll through the gallery below to see the Phantom outfitted with these bespoke touches.

Cadillac sponsors communist party movie

Cadillac is doing its best to secure its spot in the ever-growing Chinese auto market, and according to sources culled by Automobile, the luxury marque may have even gone so far as to sponsor a documentary on the rise of the communist party in the People's Republic. Depending on which translation you believe, the name of the film is either "The Birth of a Party" or "The Great Achievement of Founding the Party" (both are pretty catchy) and the sponsorship is part of a drive to get the word out about its long-wheel base SLS.

With the number of wealthy individuals in China growing by the day, it should come as no surprise to hear about The Crest doing whatever it can to promote its products in the country. Still, as Automobile points out, it's only a matter of time before some yokel with an internet connection begins drawing imaginary connections and calling GM out for its contributions to communism.

Aston-Martin One-77 world's most powerful normally-aspirated road car!

Aston Martin One 77
Aston Martin continues to march forward with its One-77. The soon-to-be-ultra-rare hypercar is closer than ever to production, and according to the minds behind its creation, when it hits the street, it will boast the world's most powerful naturally-aspirated production car engine. With 750 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque, the 7.3-liter V12 is a marvel of automotive and acoustic engineering.

Despite the company's plans to produce just 77 examples of its halo model, Aston Martin says that it's bent on making sure that each and every one of the vehicles can stand up to the same level of abuse as the rest of its production fleet. That means that somewhere out there, a One-77 prototype is being flogged in the world's most brutal climates.

Aston Martin has released the fourth installment of its video series on the One-77, complete with all of the long, slow-motion shots your little heart could possibly desire and a glorious soundtrack. If you're lucky enough to have secured a One-77 for yourself, the company says that deliveries should begin during the first half of 2011. Hit the jump to take a look and for a quick read over the press release.

Citroen concept hints at next C1

Citroen has hinted at how the replacement for the C1 might look in a concept to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show. The car, produced in conjunction with fashion label Lacoste, has no windows or doors, but does feature a disappearing windscreen and an inflatable roof that can be deployed in seconds should the weather turn.

Citroen says the car is 'stylishly minimalist and elegantly laid-back', and its compact dimensions are very close to the entry-level C1 city car. The hints continue, with Citroen also saying that the Lacoste points the way to the car of the future and that compact cars shouldn't have to lack character.

Dodge Viper - A reskinned Alfa 8C

Snakes are known to regularly shed their skin to reveal a shimmering new coat underneath. Doing it the other way around would be a unique trick, but if the latest reports are to be believed, that might be what we're looking at.

Last week at a dealers' conference, Fiat/Chrysler chief Sergio Marchionne reportedly pulled the covers off a new-generation Dodge Viper. With the current model having already been axed, our interest was, to say the least, piqued by this development. New reports emanating from the exclusive preview have given us cause for a little more consternation, however.

According to AutoWeek, the new Viper – expected to arrive sometime late next year as a 2012 model – looked eerily like an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione with a more Dodge-like front end. That would be a shame, since the Alfa's styling is its biggest asset; its chassis and performance dynamics, less so. Giving the 8C – based, as it is, on age-old Maserati architecture – a new shell and calling it a Viper strikes us as all kinds of wrong. Then again, like a great many rumors in the autosphere, this could all be mere conjecture.

First shipment of new and used cars since 2007

Wherever you live, buying a car – new or used – holds its share of challenges. But for the residents of the embattled Gaza Strip, geopolitical issues have made buying a car all but completely impossible. That is, until today, when a shipment of 20 new and used cars arrived by truck for first time since 2007.

The freeze has been in effect since the Palestinians elected the militant anti-Israel terrorist organization Hamas to their parliament. Following the elections and the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit, Hamas seized control of the coastal strip and kicked out the established Palestinian Authority, prompting the implementation of sanctions and a tightening of the borders by neighboring Israel and Egypt.

The Palestinian Authority, governed by the secularist Fatah party of chairman Mahmoud Abbas, still controls the disputed West Bank territories of Judea and Samaria, as well as border control along the Gaza Strip. Israel has been easing sanctions as a good will gesture as part of currently ongoing peace talks with Abbas.

This new car shipping truck consisted primarily new and used Hyundai and Kia models arriving via the Kerem Shalom border crossing named after the local agricultural commune, but which Palestinians call Kerem Abu Salem. With no local car industry, many of the cars in the Palestinian-controlled territories are stolen from Israel proper.

Hyundai moving Elantra production to Alabama

Hyundai is getting ready to launch its redesigned Elantra here in the United States. Not only will it sell that car here, it will also be built here as well. Slated to join its Sonata and Sante Fe siblings, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra will be built at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama facility in Montgomery, Alabama.

Already on sale in South Korea, the redesigned Elantra will join a strong Hyundai lineup that aims to take a larger slice of the U.S. automotive vehicle sales pie. The design is attractive, the fuel-economy rating should be good, the interior will be feature packed and we expect the price to be just right.

According to CEO and President of Hyundai Motor America John Krafcik,
"Hyundai's philosophy is to build our vehicles where we sell them, and with the addition of the Elantra to our U.S. production mix we now manufacture our three most popular models right here in the U.S."

The North American-spec 2011 Hyundai Elantra is expected to make its North American debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, and sales of the re-designed model are earmarked to begin early in 2011.

How to Buy a Porsche 918 Spyder?

Would you like to buy a Porsche 918 Spyder? Just hop in your private plane and come on down to the 918 Spyder dealership!

On Thursday evening of the annual car-celebration weekend on California's Monterey Peninsula, Porsche hosted a group of international media at the Monterey Jet Center at the Monterey airport for a private viewing of the Porsche 918 Spyder concept from this year's Geneva Motor Show. This was the car's debut in U.S, Porsche had already set up the car on a well-lit stage in a big white airplane hangar for prospective customers to have private viewings. Why here, at the airport? So that the very well-heeled folks who might decide to buy this car could simply fly in, taxi over to the hangar, hop out, see the car and hear the spiel, and then hop back in and fly away. "We had one couple who flew here directly from another state, spent 45 minutes looking at the car, and then got back on their plane and went home," says David Pryor, Porsche Cars North America's Marketing VP.

"Most of the people who've seen the 918 aren't concerned about what the production version will cost," Pryor continues. "The main things they want to know are, one, when will it be available? and, two, how many are we going to make? This is how they're deciding whether they want to make the investment in this car."

Pryor, a 12-year veteran of Porsche Cars, says that Porsche has been observing the process by which Lexus is selling its upcoming LFA supercar, whereby buyers lease the car for the first two years before being given full title. Lexus's intention is to prevent speculators from scooping up the cars and reselling them at huge profits, but Pryor notes that, according to recent media reports, both Lexus dealers and prospective LFA customers have expressed dismay at this process, and Lexus seems to be reconsidering the means by which LFAs will reach consumers. Lexus also had been asking prospective LFA buyers to go through an application process to be considered for one of the LFA leases, and in regards to that, Pryor declares that "We have no intention of hand-selecting our buyers."

So, there you have it, folks: Step right up and get your Porsche 918 Spyder supercar! Just as long as you have a reported half-million-dollars-plus. And as for those two main concerns of prospective 918 customers? Porsche remains tight-lipped on both the timing of the 918 Spyder production car and on how many of them will be made. But Pryor stresses that it will definitely be a defined number, as it's clear that buyers want to know that they are getting a limited edition. "We learned our lesson on the Carrera GT," he says. That supercar's production number was open-ended through its production run.

BMW unwraps 6 Series Coupe Concept

Like the other BMW concepts, the 6 Series Coupe bound for the Paris Motor Show is a concept in name alone. Set to be based on the 5 Series' underpinnings and taking several cues from the Grand Coupe concept shown in Beijing, the next BMW 6 Series takes the brand's new upright grille, frames it with a set of full-LED headlamps and than caps things off with a more contoured rump. We're not going to pass judgement on the design until we see it in person, but like the last 6er, this new GT appears to be a love it or loathe it affair.

On the contrary, the interior is an airy, organic environment, complete with an asymmetrical center console tilted towards the driver, a new navigation display and a host of aluminum and leather accents that are several steps beyond what's currently on offer from BMW. We're particularly digging the redesigned steering wheel and the waterfall of material that connects the dash to the transmission tunnel.

BMW isn't giving up specifics on dimensions or engines – this is a "concept" after all – but expect the 2012 BMW 6 Series to be slightly lower and marginally wider than the current model. Power will be supplied by BMW's current array of naturally aspirated and turbocharged inline sixes, with the next M6 outputting over 550 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. The standard 6 should be in showroom early next year, with the M6 to arriving in late 2012 and the soft-top due out in late 2011.

Best Cars for Teens and Seniors

When it comes to teen drivers, there's a common misconception among parents that putting their new drivers behind the wheel of a big, ugly car is the safest thing they can do -- other than forbidding the kids to drive altogether. The opposite is true: For inexperienced drivers, good handling and automatic stability control are keys to safety. For drivers on the other end of the age spectrum, the road to a safe ride includes easy access to controls, a superior braking system and big windows for good visibility.

2011 Nissan Leaf electric car is a treat to drive

Electric cars have been around as long as gasoline versions, but their limited range always outweighed the fact that they are simple to use and easy to drive.

Electric cars were big in the early part of the last century, largely because gasoline vehicles had to be hand-cranked to start — a difficult process that left some unwary folks with broken bones when the crank kicked back.

Then, Cadillac's self-starter made gas engines a breeze to ignite: Push the button, and there you go. And there went electrics, into obscurity.

Nothing but somber silver and boring blue -- until now. Upon our encouragement, Nissan's California outpost yanked a red Leaf electric car out of some nook and provided a photo for Drive On readers first.

It shows that in a snappy color, Leaf loses some of its ugly-on-a-stick ambiance. There's much more to Leaf than its shade.

The Most Beautiful Car of the Year: 2010 Aston Martin Rapide

Maybe, you think, it's just a trick of the light. Maybe it doesn't actually look like that, maybe those hips aren't real. Then you get closer. Your toes quiver. Your brain turns to jelly and starts dripping down the back of your spine. The Aston Martin Rapide is the Helen of Troy of four-door sedans, a 470-hp V-12-powered ball of white light that makes every other car on the planet look like a rusty shopping cart. This is art.

Compact Car of the year: 2011 Ford Fiesta

Motown's experiments with pocket-sized wheels have run the gamut from outsourced deathtraps to laughably expensive imports, and few have really fit our needs. The Ford Fiesta, designed with both European and American customers in mind, marks the end of that trend. Most Continental runabouts are too small and nervous to mesh with our wide-open spaces and supersized asses, but the twenty-six-hundred-pound Fiesta somehow offers the poise and quiet comfort of a car twice its size. It's also cheap ($13,320 for the sedan; $15,120 for the hatch), easy on fuel, and a barrel of giggles in corners. Detroit, you now have the recipe. Keep it up.

Esquire Car of the Year 2010 - Audi S4

As this automobile was introduced in the past century, so has our ability to measure its talents. A computerized, white-coat-verified test instrument has been fitted on this vehicle and its performance has been recorded. Speed, grip, handling, even the timbre of an engine's howl was measured down to a fraction, far past the bounds of argument or sanity. And yet this misses the point. Cars are subjective, emotional things. Car awards are even more subjective. Numbers and stats are starting points, but we believe that the Esquire Car of the Year should make you feel something deep in your gut. You should lust for it and dream about it, but it shouldn't be an impossible goal. It must be attainable for the average man. It should sit in front of your house or office without drawing attention to itself and tackle four seasons of day-to-day transportation with ease. Yet crucially, sometimes, without warning, it must make you snatch the keys off the wall, haul off to the country and just drive. We did just that, for hundreds of miles. We carved up mountain roads, slogged through traffic, blasted down interstates. And we have come to a conclusion: The Esquire Car of the Year is the 2010 Audi S4.

The company has already advertised for a senior engineer in powertrain hybrid technology in July of last year.

Ford E-Series celebrates 50 years

Ford is celebrating the survival of Econoline vans for the past fifty years. The Blue Oval's horses hit the scene in 1961 with three different body styles. Ford quickly realized that families love vans as much as plumbers, and introduced consumer-oriented, family-friendly versions as well. Since then, the Econoline (E-Series) has been the best-selling full-size van in the United States for 31 years straight.

On this special occasion, Ford has decided to introduce a special-edition E-Series. Packed to the gills with the XLT package, the van will come dipped in a unique metallic blue paint and will wear seats embroidered with a new "Econoline 50 Years" logo. So far, there's no word on how much that kind of kit will set you back, though we can't imagine it being too much more than the $33,455 Ford asks for the E-150 XLT Premium.

1964 Pontiac XP833 Banshee Concept

You may never know what you're going to find on eBay. The auction house of the interwebs routinely plays host to metal both obscure and unique – two categories the vehicle you see above satisfies without question. It's a 1964 Pontiac XP833 Banshee Concept, and while it's easy to think that the car is little more than a warmed over Corvette design, the truth is that this particular Poncho had widespread influence on General Motors design language for more than a decade.

Originally penned by none other than John Delorean, the Banshee was supposed to be a more sports-oriented competitor to the recently introduced Ford Mustang. Unfortunately, when the concept was completed, the higher-ups felt that the Banshee would threaten the Corvette throne and the project was scrapped. It's a song that would be repeated time and time again in the future.

Chevrolet to debut sporty Aveo in paris

Chevrolet has provided a sporty look to its new Aveo subcompact car to target young buyers. This car will be revealed at the Paris auto show later this month by the General Motors Co.

The five-door hatchback has a sporty design similar to the Aveo RS show car launched at the Detroit auto show earlier this year. It has swept back headlights, a rising shoulder line and rear door handles hidden in the C-pillar that give the car a sporty three-door look.

Wayne Brannon, the head of Chevrolet Europe said that the new Aveo will be ready to compete against the best in the small car segment also the Europe's largest segment." The new model is longer and wider than the current model, providing a spacious interior and cargo volume which is best in its class.

The interior has a motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster that features an analog tachometer combined with a digital speedometer and warning lights. Electronic stability control and ABS brakes will be standard on the car.

Aveo will be offered with a diesel engine for the first time in Europe featuring a fuel-saving stop-start technology. The 1.3-liter engine will be available in 75hp and 95hp versions. There are two gasoline engines, an 86-hp1.2-liter unit and a 100-hp unit.

Aveo is the No.2 best seller for Chevrolet in Europe after Matiz with sales of 28,312 in the first seven months, down from 43,630 the year before, according to market researcher JATO Dynamics.

The Aveo will debut in Paris alongside the Orlando seven-seat minivan and Cruze hatchback.

Citroën preparing hot hybrid DS4 Racing model

Get ready to figure out what would be the make of the new Citroën DS4. Various reports indicate that the French automaker is preparing a performance version of the premium hatchback/crossover/whats-it in the same vein as the DS3 Racing which will be taller with a few more doors.

Presumed to be called the DS4 Racing, this vehicle is slated to debut in Paris later this month, will ostensibly target the hot models already on the market, like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Renaultsport Megane 250.

Ferrari Enzo's successor will be a hybrid

Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo confirmed that the successor to the Enzo throne will be available with a hybrid drivetrain. According to him, the electrified supercar will borrow heavily from the company's 599 HY-KERS concept that debuted at this year's Geneva Motor Show. That vehicle used hybrid tech derived from the kinetic energy recovery system that Ferrari experimented with on its F1 vehicles.

Previously, Ferrari has said that the incorporation of a battery pack and an electric motor would allow the company to continue to offer high-cylinder-count engines while offsetting fuel consumption and emissions. The company has also made it clear that it intends to begin moving toward smaller models to further reduce weight.

The news came as Montezemolo announced that he has no intention of moving from his post at Ferrari to greener pastures in the Italian government. The chairman said that he fully intends to stay at the company long enough to help craft the vehicles in the next product cycle, each of which will follow in the footsteps of the Enzo successor.

GM unveils Chevrolet Cruze hatchback for Europe

General Motors will be expanding Chevrolet's lineup by adding a five-door Cruze. GM has provided a few pictures on the web. This model will definitely be one of the major attraction at the Paris Motor Show in just a few weeks, the liftback ought to compete nicely with the 2012 Ford Focus five-door, but don't expect GM to offer the more functional Cruze in the United States. "Americans don't like hatchbacks," remember?

GM calls the Cruze hatchback model a "show car," but in this case, it's somewhere between the stages of concept and prototype. Don't expect the body to change, but we can easily see the front LED light bar and larger wheels being scrapped for the sake of cost-cutting.

Chevrolet will begin selling the Cruze hatchback across Europe in mid-2011 and pricing will be announced closer to the model's on-sale date. Follow the jump for the full details in GM's press release.

Dhiaa Al-Essa's super car collection worth £3.5m

When we were 21, we would be happy to ditch the fake ID and score cheaper insurance rates. Life's a little different for Dhiaa Al-Essa. He owns a fleet of exotic cars that would turn the average enthusiast's knees into Jell-O.

His 30-car garage includes Italians, Brits and Germans to re-enact World War II. He has four Ferraris, five Porsches, three Lamborghinis, two Rolls-Royces and a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Among these Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is his personal favorite. Young Dhiaa spent this summer around the globe and created own driving tours with his friends in cities such as London, Montreal, Las Vegas and New York.

How is a young man like Mr. Al-Essa able to afford such amazing machinery? Well, he can't. His father just happens to be a billionaire who enjoys spending money on a cost-is-no-object basis for his son. To prove this point, Dihaa's father plans to hand him the keys to two more otherworldly vehicles. On his 22nd birthday, Dihaa will become the proud owner of a Koenigsegg Agera, which comes with a golden key. It's like the Willy Wonka of supercars. After the Agera, a Bugatti Veyron will join the family. The price for both cars? Around one Corvette Z06 under $5 million.

Sadly, Al-Essa's new Ferrari 458 Italia was recently lost to fire while housed at Heathrow Airport. Is he crying about it? Nope. He reportedly plans to replace it with one of the Ferrari 599 Roadster models rumored to have been shown at Pebble Beach last month.

Toyota plans budget sports car line

Akio Toyoda would like to bring the driving excitement back to Toyota, but they have two major hurdles to overcome: First is the brands's limited enthusiast base and another one is that Japan's youth have very little interest on cars.

To overcome both these hurdles, Toyota plans to launch budget-oriented vehicles that offer a modicum of sport. But so far, things don't look too promising.

Despite debuting an FT-86-based concept at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota's G Sports line of products have mainly focused on the Voxy and Noah minivans, while a "sports" version of the Prius is apparently in the works.

More interestingly, the Mainichi Daily News reports that a version of the GRMN sports car concept has been given the greenlight, meaning a mid-engined hybrid successor to the MR2 is in the works.

All these developments came after the establishment of a sports vehicle management division which now has a hand in the brand's overall product planning.

Izaro Motors GT-E Electric Sports Car

Izaro Motors is a new name in the world of sports cars. Their GT-E model is an electric sports car in the same league as the Tesla Roadster.

This car will be available at a price of approx. 55,000 euro. Izaro Motors GT-E will be offered with two types of propulsion: a hybrid version, which will provide a total power of 416 HP and a range of up to 429 miles, and one full hybrid, it will display no more than 495 HP, but a range much lower, only 155 miles.

Due to the intensive use of aluminum and magnesium in chassis construction, the vehicle’s weight will be around 1,000 kg. Depending on customer demand, the interior will be wrapped in carbon, wood, Alcantara, aluminum, or leather.

Ford Explorer vs. 2011 Dodge Durango?

The 2011 Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer are big departures from the models that they replace. Apart from the usual styling and differences, the biggest changes are their unibody constructions. Though their companies continue to brand them as being traditional sport-utes, these once-SUVs are now CUVs.

Both these models offer seating for seven but that's where their similarities start to taper off. Each vehicle offers a choice of two different powertrains, but while Dodge has opted to go a more traditional route with by fielding the Durango with both 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter V8 engines, Ford has gone in the opposite direction by equipping the Explorer with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four and a 3.5-liter V6. There are pros and cons for each – the Explorer may prove to be more fuel-efficient, but the Durango ought to tow more.

Next Defender expected in 2014

Land Rover seems to have trouble to figure about the successor to the Defender. The company knows what the vehicle should have, but doesn't know how to engineer using its existing components. Its said that Land Rover had planned to use its T5 steel platform for Project Icon. Though according to the report, the company now thinks that the chassis would be too heavy to be a viable option.

So how the next-generation Defender will look like? All we know for sure is that the vehicle will still wear the Defender name.
